In 2012 I went to my first NY ComicCon #NYCC.  I went with a group of friends, all mostly nerds like me, all with love for different characters and different shows.  I remember the line of people waiting to get in, tons of cosplayers, dressed as their favorite character.  I’m not sure how many batman, spiderman, Lara Croft, Harry Potter I got to see that day.  You get the idea.  Of course, my favorites are anything with the Doctor Who theme!  In 2012 they had Daleks in one of the show floors and of course I had to get a picture with them!  I also got to see young Amelia Pond, who seemed to be a little overwhelmed by the number of people in the place.

So I got curious and did some research and it seems that the term cosplay was coined in 1984 by a Japanese reporter named Nobuyuki Takahashi, while attending the 42nd Worldcon in Los Angeles.  The term he used was kosupure, which is where cosplay is derived.

This year I’m attending on a weekday, I want to see if I can walk a little more freely.  That first time It was really hard to move from one side to the other side of the building.  My friends and I had designated spaces where we would meet and then agree on other areas to venture.  This time around I am planning to visit more panels and listen to some of the key speakers.  Of course, there are the usual such as anything related to the Walking Dead.  I believe there is a panel today called ‘Robert Kirkman:  The Walking Dead, Invincible, and Beyond”.  For the Batman fans, there will be “First Look: Batman Ninja”  in which there will be ‘a premie of the addition to the Batman animated legacy’ – Batman Ninja.

I’m really looking forward to “Here Lie Dragons and Eternal Beasties” which will be covering the theme of non-human characters and how they have been part of most storytelling throughout time.

In regards to new items coming out, John Leguizamo, the comedian, and actor, will be talking about his new graphic novel called Freak! The Comic Book! that should be a blast.  I think he is hilarious, so I’m wondering what he will be bringing into Freak.

One of my favorites, Keanu Reeves will be discussing this afternoon the new film “Replicas”.  You guessed it, it has something to do with cloning 😉  I would like to attend this one, but it already has about 2,478 people wanting to attend, so I’ll definitely play it by ear.

As a last note, I hope I get to see Peter Capaldi at the Autographing table!!!

On that note, let the adventure begin!
